Anyone fr Central Valley, Calif- pls advice me where I should work as RN, in Modesto or Merced?
I want to know what place has the best housing price, lower crime rate, good school system for kids, low daily living expenses. Help me, Modesto or Merced?

As a general rule, the closer you get to the SF Bay area, the more expensive the houses and the nicer the restaurants, shopping, etc. Merced is getting the new UC Merced, but it will take a couple of years for the ethnic restaurants, used book stores and string quartet recitals that make a college town a cultural oasis to get there. Crime rates depend more on neighborhoods than on towns. Schools depend on the schools; the same district may have a stellar one and a marginal one. I'd say Merced, if you are in it for the long haul. In 10 years it will be nicer, due to the University. New 3BR 2Bath homes start around $300,000 in Modesto at the moment. I don't know what they are in Merced.
