About Home phone and long distane question.

Home phone and long distane question.?
Well first of all, if someone's number has the same area code as your number but lives in a different town, is it considered long distance? Also, I have no long distance plan on my home phone and when I usually try to call Sacramento or something it just doesn't work. But when I call this person (who's in Modesto) it works. (I live in Stockton, CA) I'm also wondering, if you receive a phone call that isn't collect from a cell phone that's considered long distance, will you be charged for the long distance call?

I am 15 and I live in Texas, but I am pretty sure the laws are the same. You are not allowed to work in food service until you turn 16 even if it is just as a host or hostess. This is because many insurance companies do not believe it is advisable for a person this age to work in this type of industry.
2 :
Yes it is very true in most areas I think, that it will be very hard for you to get a job at that age unless you are close friends or related to someone that owns a family owned business. First there are state and federal laws that limit you to how many hours you can work (this is so there is no child labor problems). Plus many of the larger companies their insurance will not insure the employee if they are under 16 in some cases they are making it 17. So many companies wont hire due to that ..one they can only work you a few hours a week so does not benefit them, the other is if you are not insured by them they can not have the liabiltiy..(such as if you get hurt on the job the insurance will not cover it). You need to do things like babysit or other summer jobs that do allow that age group. It is tough and kids today seem to need money more than ever...but then in my days we just did not buy all the things they have. Talk around to family and friends for odd jobs such as cleaning houses etc.

Here's a short list of jobs which you can create to generate income: 1. Learn calligraphy so that you can provide handwritten invitations and thank you notes to prospective wedding parties, birthday celebrations, etc. Seek out clients through wedding planners at nearby churches and temples. A starter calligraphy kit usually runs around $20 and anyone can easily pick up this skill. The going rate is usually $1 per hand addressed item. 2. Become a "poser" who assists wedding photographers in setting and arranging various individuals in group and single photographic positions. "Posers" carry around a sketch book of various sitting and standing poses which consists of onion skin overlays of various wedding pictures bound in albums. Again, contact local wedding photographers and wedding planners, accordingly. The hourly pay is around $10-$12 per hour and you are often invited to attend all dining activities. 3. Seek from your neighbors a gardner position which involves planting, weed removal, plant/tree trimming, light brush clearance. You will be using the neighbor's equipment and tools. Again, do not represent yourself as a lawn mower since there are any number of safety issues involved. A door-to-door solicitation of surrounding neighbors is required and you can charge between $6 to $9 per hour. 4. Offer policing/removal or clearance of trash services to surrounding neighbors which involve trash pickup within nearby residential area. Limit the extent of pickup to small areas and be aware that there are no hazardous terrain or elements involved in this process. Again, a door-to-door solicitation of neighbors is in order. You can charge between $6.75 to $7.50 per hour. 5. Acquire a set of window cleaning tools [a bucket, liquid window cleaner, sponge, squeegee, handle with an extension and a small step ladder] and solicit local businesses for your window cleaning services. However, be careful to limit the height of the window cleaning to no higher than one story. Charge $1 per window panel. 6. Become a proxy/stand-in for neighbors to allow delivery of goods and packages to your home/apartment. Acquire the authority to sign any receipt of incoming packages as an accepting neighbor. Charge $1 per each package handled by you. 7. Consider becoming a restaurant-cafe customer liaison by using your cell phone at restaurants-cafes to coordinate with the hostess to keep track of waiting customers. Whenever there's a very long period of time to activate a waiting list, you want to offer the restaurant your services so that customers do not have to stand around for any lengthy period of time. And when their name/assigned number comes up; you can call the upcoming customer's cell phone to tell them that they can return to the restaurant and be served. The call back fee is usually around $0.50 cents on a per head basis. For example, a couple would be charged $1.00 while children under 6 would not be charged. Placement of a plaque which outlines your fee schedule near the hostess station is sufficient to garner attention of prospective customers who will value your services since they can do other activities outside of the restaurant -- often beyond the range of any inhouse paging system. You realize that everyone has a cellphone and why not take advantage of the connectivity to make the diner's experience worthwhile. The restaurant will also appreciate the added service you are providing as a customer liaison. 8. Why not become a paid feeder servicing the disabled at nearby nursing, convalescent, assisted living/care centers and hospitals. It involves feeding food to patients who are unable to feed themselves. The starting rate is $8.00 per hour. The only downside is that one has to take precautions to wash one's hands after each feeding. A posting of your services [by a business card or flyer] on a reviewable bulletin board would be enough to generate customers. The paid feeder position is one of the fastest growing occupation at this time. Good luck!

I live in Hughson. VicSEO had some good ideas. I had problems here because your screen name suggests you are a girl but your question says "Host", not "Hostess". I'm going to guess you are a girl who doesn't know the difference. If not, substitute "busboy" where appropriate, and don't try for a baby sitting job. Until you are 16, you will have to settle for yard work, babysitting or house cleaning or some standard "kid" job - taking care of plants and pets when people are on vacation is a good prospect this summer. Here's some advice you didn't ask for, and will sound harsh - employers don't care what you need. They care how much you can help them. If you compete for a job as hostess with someone who doesn't really need the job - someone from Turlock State who just wants to meet boys, for instance - the restaurant will probably hire her, because she is older and more experienced. If you get a job at a nice restaurant it will probably be as busgirl, and you'll have to wait until you are 16 to do that. When you turn 16, apply at Carl's, McDonald's, etc besides Denny's, Perko's and Galleto's. If you get a job at the nice place, great! If not, and you get a job at a burger joint, wait 6 months and apply again at the nice places. Having 6 months of experience and the name of your manager at the burger joint as a reference will prove to the nice places that you can show up on time, do a decent job and be relied upon.

McDonald's in Riverbank is hiring. I think the sign on the door said they were paying around $8.00 an hour. If you've already worked for them in the past and performed well then you would be already trained and would be an asset to the manager.
2 :
Being that you are 17 you can go through this program called Career Quest. It helps the ages of 17-21 to look for a Career not just a dead beat job. And the best part of it is that its FREE. They also have training that you can do. And through out the program they give you gift cards and stuff. Call 209.558.YOUTH and somebody can give you more info.

go to the website for the airport http://www.flysfo.com/web/page/index.jsp or go to the airport to terminal 2 on the departure level (second level) and go to the employment office ask a TSA officer where to find it cause the office is hidden, the building is the old international terminal so nothing is in it except all the FAA flight tower and airport operations which is way hidden upstairs

About Is age of house important? Do newer homes appreciate in value better than older homes

Is age of house important? Do newer homes appreciate in value better than older homes?
I'm going to be buying my first house. I'm looking at several cities, since I'll be working in Modesto: Manteca, Tracy, Turlock, and others. One place that really intrigues me is downtown, Turlock. However, the houses are very old: 1920's. Is that too old of a house to buy for an investment? Is it better to buy a newer home or an older home? Or, does it matter? Is location more important than the age of the home? I probably won't live in this house for more than a few years, since it will be a starter home for me, so it is important that it goes up in value.
Renting & Real Estate - 6 Answers

1 :
location location location With that out of the way, if I had two homes of equal size in comparable neighborhoods and I had a choice of a 1920's house or new construction, I'd go with the 20's if it was in good condition. Condition matters way more than age. Similarly, quality of construction matters too, and the 20's house would beat the modern house 9 times out of 10 there.
2 :
The truth is that if you compare a brand new home with the same model home that is a few years old you will find that the home that is a few years old sells for less than the new home. It often sells for for more than it did when it was new but the new homes have gone up in price by even more. If you buy an home that was built in the 1920's you will find they are in limited supply so that the people that want them will pay a very good price for them. You will also find that there is a constant flow of money going out to fix and update the home while you live there. I live in a nice neighborhood with the homes built in the late 1960's. I love it because of the trees, schools, floorplans, parks, easy commutes and dozens of other reasons. But the best bet in looking at investment is: What is the best neighborhood? Then a distant second is: What is the condition of the home in the 1920's? (and the condition of it's neighbors). I would buy the house you like best in the nieghborhood you like most. If it is the older house have some extra money for upkeep. If it is the new house- hope that the new houses keep going up- if the builders start reducing their prices more you will be stuck.
3 :
You may want to think twice if you're only going to live there "a few years." There is no certainty that homes - new or old - will rebound in the short term.
4 :
It depends on the town and the neighborhood. For instance a home built in 1920 in Southern Modesto (around Hatch) is not going to ever appreciate. But a home build in 1920 in the College District or Grecada area of Modesto is a hot commodity and will always be desirable. They newer homes in all of those citys have not been well built and have a high level of foreclosures. It would be hard to say if they will go the way of rentals or families will end up in them....you are rolling the dice. Tracy and Manteca have been depressed areas for years, this last market dive did not effect them much because they were low to begin with. Unless they fix their school systems they will never be desirable. If you want a newer house in Modesto make sure it is in either the Enochs High School district or the Sylvan school district. Both areas will remain desirable because the schools are top notch. I am not as familiar with Turlock schools, but unless the college or chicken company (I think it is Foster Farms) fails you should be OK buying there. The difference between a good and bad neighborhood there is immediately evident, there is not much in between. Let me know if you have any specific questions, I have access to lots of info.
5 :
Location of home is THE most important thing. My home is over 100 years old in a community with many older homes and a handful of McMansions, and the average home value is about $700000. With any home 20 years old or older, you need a detailed professional inspection. Check out the roof, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, all systems. What is age of furnace, appliances, hot water heater, breaker panel? When was home last updated. Any home ages, but unless you're buying a mobile home, over the long run they tend to appreciate in value. Right now we're in a housing slump, and some say not at the bottom yet. So for a short term investment, be careful. There is no guarantee the home will appreciate in value, and there is every liklihood that you will make some repairs and improvements during your ownership. The boom-boom years are gone and you are NOT guaranteed a profit in short-term ownership. So buy a home convenient to your work in an area you like. Check out the school system, because solid schools cause homes to hold or increase their value more than anything else. Location of home is THE most important thing. Check out the school system, because solid schools cause homes to hold or increase their value more than anything else. Decide whether it makes sense for you to buy a home or to rent and save for a bigger downpayment for a home purchase in a few years. Fund your 401k at work. You need at least 3% down payment, and you need 20% down to avoid paying PMI. The better your credit and the bigger your down payment, the better mortgage terms you can get, which saves you tens of thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. Go with a fixed rate loan, no ARM unless you're truly a gambler.
6 :
Location location location. This is one of the main factors in appreciation. That is why a lot of the newer house built today have a homeowner's association. This association state certain things that will and will not be allowed, additional building codes to go along with the city codes. Most houses will appreciate in value after 3-4 years. If you plan to sell in 3-4 years make sure that you maintain the house in excellent condition. Make it the best house on the block. Do not over build, but keep up the regular maintanace, painting exterior and interior, landscaping. For additional value you might remodel the kitchen and bath, add sprinklers to the landscape. I hope that this has been of some use to you, good luck 'FIGHT ON"
